Three glowing jellyfish rise majestically near a coral reef as the sun casts a reflection upon its face. Richly figured maple (Acer saccharum), cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa), and vibrantly colored 600 year old coastal redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) in combination with brass and stainless steel form this unique sculpture from the Natural Reflections collection. The intelligent design allows the viewer to peer behind, beneath, and between the piece, areas which hold subtle delights, such as tentacles flowing behind, different angles of the jellies, and a hidden piece of redwood, while solid construction with stainless steel and aluminum reinforced joinery ensures longevity. Each jellyfish has six brass and twelve stainless steel tentacles which have been shaped, rounded, and fastened to the underside of the redwood domes. Whether a tentacle has been coiled tightly, is gently flowing, or wrapped around another, the shape and tentacles of each jelly differ, differentiating them from one another in personality and style, and the elegant joinery near the center of the maple add to the illusion. A whimsical three-dimensional masterpiece over 6' tall, the first piece by the artist to integrate wood and metal. Flawless, classy, tasteful, whimsical and fun. |
